Lose your blues for this musical version of the 1984 film "Footloose," as it takes you back to the '80s with its soundtrack of hits combined with dynamic new songs all performed live by an accomplished cast of singers and dancers. It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock’n’roll and 100 percent fun.

Footloose opens Feb. 8 and runs through March 3 with performances Friday and

Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Two additional performances are scheduled for Thursday nights Feb. 21 and 28, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at, over the phone at 254-1320, or in person at the Asheville Community Theatre Box Office.

“Footloose is a high energy, heartfelt show that seems like it’s just a lot of fun,” said Susan Harper, executive director of Asheville Community Theatre. “And it is! But it also emphasizes that it’s important to open your mind and listen to what other people have to say.”

When teenager Ren McCormack moves from Chicago to a small town, he isn’t prepared for the

stifling local laws, including a ban on dancing and rock music instituted by the local preacher. As he struggles to fit in, he encourages his classmates to defy the local pastor and call for a rock’n’roll prom.

Asheville Community Theatre’s production stars a cast of 39 students and adults from Western North Carolina, many of whom are new to Asheville and are making their ACT debuts. The two leads, Ren and Ariel, are played by Asheville newcomers Dillon Giles and Anne Lowell. They are joined onstage by married-in-real-life couple Jeff and Missy Stone, who will be playing Reverend Shaw Moore and his wife, Vi. The cast features plenty of ACT favorites as well as fresh-faced newcomers.

For Opening Weekend, all tickets are discounted at $26. Other Opening Weekend perqs include complimentary champagne on Opening Night, complimentary chocolate on Saturday night, and a talk-back with the cast and crew after the Sunday matinee. Other weekend performances are $30. Children’s tickets for those age 17 and under are $15.
