HAYWOOD COUNTY — Immerse yourself in art and nature with a plein air artist retreat at Lake Logan Conference Center Aug. 9-11, drawing on the 300-acre campus at the base of the Shining Rock Wilderness for inspiration.
Artists will spend three days capturing the idyllic beauty of a landscape replete with natural features including the scenic lake, the lily pond, the Pigeon River, secluded forests, streams and waterfalls.
Artists of all disciplines and mediums are welcome to not only unleash their creative talents but comune with fellow artists while staying onsite in Lake Logan’s cabins. Artists will work independently in their own chosen locations and attend optional group sessions during the retreat.
The evening will begin with a wine reception for attending artists and Lake Logan’s invited friends and supporters. Artists are encouraged to donate a small work for the silent auction, to benefit Lake Logan, a nonprofit organization.
Guest musicians Eric Hendrix and Friend and Red Nucleus will provide evening entertainment.
The retreat will be led by mixed media artist Norma Hendrix and fine art photographer Barbara Tyroler. Hendrix was professor of painting, drawing and art history at Western Carolina University and founder of the nonprofit Cullowhee Arts. Barbara Tyroler brings her experience as a university level educator and professional photographer to blend technical and aesthetic vision.
