WAYNESVILLE/SYLVA — Ron Rash, the acclaimed Appalachian author of Serena, will be at Blue Ridge Books in Waynesville and at City Lights in Sylva on Saturday, July 17.
Rash will be reading from his new title In the Valley: Stories and a Novella Based on Serena, at 1 p.m. in Waynesville and 3:30 p.m. in Sylva
The book is a collection of short stories and a novella featuring the return of the ruthless Serena Pemberton, a character introduced in Rash’s Serena, published in 2008. Serena was set in Haywood County during the logging era of the early 1900s, and made into a movie.
Rash's new book, published last year, was the winner of the 2020 Thomas Robinson Prize for Southern Literature.
Rash’s readers will recognize the themes of family honor and pride, generational change, wounds of the past, hard living, and cruelty — but while the stories are familiar, they are also uniquely new and fresh.
Tickets are $5. Seating is limited, so call to reserve your seat. 828-456-6000
