Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company

WCU Campus Activities presents the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company at the Bardo Arts Center on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. Elegant and captivating, the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company melds ancient Chinese forms with modern dance in an artistic and inventive marriage of styles. Artistic Director and Choreographer Lily Cai, a former principal dancer with the Shanghai Opera House, draws on her cultural heritage to create visually-stunning dance, performed by her all-female professional troupe.

The performance moves from the ancient to the modern, blending the beautiful artistic traditions of China with Lily Cai's unique contemporary choreography. The performance is one of variety and many moods, including dances inspired by the Chinese dynasties and fan dances, the haunting Candelas dance with lit candles and the Company's signature work – the exhilarating, vibrant, ribbon dance "Silk Cascade."

The community and other students are welcome to the event. Tickets are $5 for WCU Students. Tickets for others are $10 for non-WCU students, WCU Faculty and Staff; and $15 for general admission. For tickets and group sales, please contact the Bardo Center Box Office at 227-2479 or online at bardoartscenter.wcu.edu.

In addition to Lily Cai, WCU will have a Lunar New Year celebration. Enjoy cultural performances, crafts, and samplings of traditional Asian cuisine. The event is free to the community. WCU will celebrate the Year of the Pig in the Grand Room at the University Center from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4. For questions, contact international@wcu.edu or 227-7494.
