Take the family to see the Gingerbread Houses at Grove Park

As the holiday season kicks into full gear and locals welcome family members visiting from near and far, several local nonprofits want to remind them to consider including a visit to The Omni Grove Park Inn’s Gingerbread House exhibit as a part of their family tradition.

The exhibit hosts one-of-a-kind masterpieces that have been submitted to this National Gingerbread House Competition. What people may not realize is that they will not only find inspiration among the treats on display, they will also help to strengthen our local community as a result of having parked their car.

Since 2013, The Omni Grove Park Inn has contributed over $430,000 to local nonprofit partners as a result of their Holiday Parking Program. This year’s recipients include United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County; American Legion Baseball Post #70; Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County; Asheville City Schools Foundation; Horizons at CDS; Children First/Communities in Schools; Asheville Museum of Science and the YMCA Camp Watia Camper Scholarship Fund.

Gingerbread artists of all ages and backgrounds from across the country came together last week to exhibit their one-of-a-kind edible creations, while celebrating the 27th year of the National Gingerbread House Competition, hosted at The Omni Grove Park Inn.

Across all categories, 226 entries were received from foodies coast-to-coast.

A panel of judges including nationally renowned food, arts and media professionals evaluated each gingerbread innovation based on overall appearance, originality/creativity, difficulty, precision and consistency of theme, with each entry required to be made of at least 75 percent gingerbread.

In true holiday spirit, The Omni Grove Park Inn will be displaying all gingerbread creations through Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020 to visitors on a complimentary basis.

A $25 per car fee will be charged for all drive-in guests, with half of the parking proceeds going to local nonprofit.
