Talking Trees
This weekend is a perfect excuse to bring the kids to Cherokee and introduce them to fishing at a free two-day event, the Talking Trees Children's Trout Derby.

On Friday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. dive into excitement at the Cherokee Indian Fair Grounds for registration, games, and entertainment.

On Saturday, Aug, 3, they will give out free fishing poles for eligible participants (children ages 3 to 11) from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Arrive at Oconaluftee Islands Park on Saturday, for hours of fishing fun with prizes, face painting, balloon animals, and more. Entry is free (provided you register) and includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

The derby will take place at the Cherokee Fair Grounds and Oconaluftee Islands Park, 545 Tsali Blvd. in Cherokee.
