ASHEVILLE — The music and dance traditions of Southern Appalachia are once again taking over  downtown Asheville with Shindig on the Green  — a perennial favorite since 1967.

Bring your instruments, families, friends, lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy bluegrass and old time music on the stage at Pack Square Park from 7-10 p.m.

Between 3,000 and 5,000 people attend the free Shindig on the Green evenings throughout the summer, running through Aug. 21. From young children perfecting their square dance steps to great-grandmothers singing ballads passed down through the years, the region’s wealth of traditional talent takes center stage.

Concessions will be provided by Okie Dokies Smokehouse and The Hop Ice Cream Cafe. No pets allowed.

Shindig on the Green is produced by the Folk Heritage Committee.
