Get your ballots ready to vote in the brand-new Haywood Idol competition held in conjunction with the Haywood County Fair, where people’s choice voting will narrow down constants to the top finalist who wins a one-night trip to Nashville.
Performers will then take the stage for a live show at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at the Smoky Mountain Event Center in conjunction with the county fair. The audience gets to cast a vote for their favorite performers.
Finalists will move on to the grand finale held during the fair itself at where the public once again determines the winner.
Haywood Idol features a star line-up of judges: Balsam Range vocalist Buddy Melton, Canton Mayor Pat Smathers and local vocal performer Caleb Watkins. The panel of judges will emcee the two live events and offer commentary on the performances.
But the actual voting will be up to you the people! Audience engagement is one of the best parts of Haywood Idol, with votes tallied on-the-spot during the live events.
“It makes it fun, because the audience is actually part of the show. They get to experience the excitement of ‘Who is it going to be?’ and find out right then,” said Anessa Jaynes, a member of the Haywood County Fair committee. “We know this county is full of homegrown talent. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful performers who come forward.”
