WAYNESVILLE — Hundreds of dogs and their owners will take to the streets for the Downtown Dog Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, organized by Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
The popular event is now in its 16th year and includes contests for best dog custome and best trick, judged following the walk. The fundraiser supports the homeless dogs and cats of Haywood County.
“The Dog Walk is not only a fun time for all — it gives the community an opportunity to be a part of helping with the animals’ needs,” said Felisha Wyman, Sarge’s Dog Walk chairman.
The walk will step off from in front of the historic courthouse on Main Street promptly at 9 a.m. to try to beat the heat. KISS Country morning personality Eddie Foxx will lead the walk as grand marshal.
Dogs and their walkers will begin gathering in front of the historic courthouse at 8 a.m. for day-of registration opens. You can also registering advance online at www.sarges.org or at Sarge’s Adoption Center in Waynesville.
There is a $30 fee per entry. It includes an official 2021 Dog Walk T-shirt, a dog bandana and a ticket for a drawing of three gift baskets after the walk. Additional shirts are $15 and children’s shirts are $10.
The walk concludes back at the historic courthouse. After the walk, Foxx will do a drawing for three gift baskets and help judge the contests for dogs in best trick and best costume.
Jeanne Naber of Songbug DJ Services will emcee the event. There will also be pet-related vendor tables set up before and after the walk.
