Looking Glass Rock

On Saturday, June 22, the public is invited on a hike along the Mountains to the Sea trail from Skinny Dip Falls to Graveyard Fields.

The trip will be led by Steve Winchester, an avid hiker who leads hikes for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This high elevation hike will take you by water falls, through forested areas, and provide views of Black Balsam Mountain. The hike is approximately six-miles and is considered moderate. The event is free for members and a $5 donation for nonmembers. Haywood Waterways' memberships start at $25.

Hikers will meet at the Looking Glass Rock Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway (near MP 417) at 9:30 am. The hike will conclude around 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided by Haywood Waterways.

The event is part of Haywood Waterways' “Get to Know Your Watershed” series of outdoor recreation activities working to raise awareness of Haywood County's natural beauty. The organization's mission is to educate and engage the public, and work in partnerships to maintain and improve Haywood County's waterways.

Waterproof shoes are highly encouraged as there are several small stream crossings and muddy areas along the trail. Bring water and lunch and please leave pets at home.

Space is limited to 18 individuals. Haywood Waterways members can sign up now; non-members can sign up June 7th. To register please contact Christine O’Brien at christine.haywoodwaterways@gmail.com or 828-476-4667 ext. 11.
