Take a hike to Goldmine Loop on Dec. 10

The Classic Hikes of the Smokies will offer the last hike of the year to Goldmine Loop on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

It will be a moderate 4.5 mile hike. Goldmine Loop is the perfect opportunity for a winter walk in the woods. Located just outside of Bryson City, this trail wanders the American holly, rosebay rhododendron, and Fraser magnolia that have reclaimed historic farmsteads early settlers once called home. Hikers will be treated to seasonal mountain views of the Smokies — one of the highlights of winter hiking.

Outdoor writer and avid hiker Danny Bernstein will lead the group. She brings more than 40 years of trail experience with her, having previously completed every trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Appalachian Trail, the Mountains to Sea Trail, South Beyond 600 Challenge, and three Caminos de Santiago

To celebrate all the miles hiked through the 2019 Classic Hikes of the Smokies, we will hold a gathering at the Swain County Visitor Center afterwards. Join us for treats, holiday shopping, and socializing with your fellow hikers.

Registration is $20/$35. Reserve your spot at https://friendsofthesmokies.org/product/hike-the-smokies/.
