BLACK MOUNTAIN — Fireworks are on tap in Black Mountain a night early on July 3 this year, with a cool opportunity to view the show from the peak of Sunset Mountain on a guided night hike.
Join the Swannanoa Valley Museum and History Center on a 1.5-mile, moderate hike to the peak of Sunset Mountain. At the summit, enjoy an old-fashioned watermelon cutting and hear local storyteller Ashton Woody regail attendees with classic Jack Tales.
BYO picnics, coolers and lawn chairs can be transported to the summit by the museum and will be awaiting the hikers. The hike back down following the fireworks will obviously be in the dark, so flashlights and headlamps are paramount.
Cost is $55 for the general public, and $30 for ages 10-18. Childre under 10 not permitted.
