HAYWOOD COUNTY — Haywood County Recreation is offering several guided hikes during July to connect the public with the rich natural resources and outdoor recreation in Haywood’s backyard.

All hikes are led by local, experienced guides. The cost is $10 per hike. To reserve a spot, call 828-452-6789 or email ian.smith@haywoodcountync.gov.

Here's the line-up for the rest of July:

• July 28: Big Creek in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near the Tennessee line off I-40. 5 miles, 700-foot elevation gain, moderate. Led by Phyllis Woollen and Vickey Watson.

• July 31: Little Sam Knob and Flat Laurel Creek Loop in the Shining Rock Wilderness of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 6.5 miles, 1,000-foot elevation gain, moderate. Led by Vickey Watson and Phyllis Woolen.
